Top 3 Car Maintenance Tips for National Car Care Month
April is right around the corner, which means warmer weather, blooming flowers, and – of course – spring break! Another thing that April brings us is National Car Care Month. Dedicated to helping raise awareness for the maintenance and upkeep of your vehicle, we at Honda of Ocala would like to give you these three car care tips.
- Oil Changes – Newer cars don’t require oil changes as often as older models. Car care wisdom used to dictate that you change your oil about every 3,000 miles. Nowadays, cars and trucks can go an average of about 7,500 miles before needing a change. A good habit to get into with your oil is checking it at least once or twice per month. This can give you a head’s up that your vehicle may be burning oil or may have a leak.
- Tires – Making a habit of checking your tires every time you get into your vehicle can be a bit inconvenient, but it can possibly save your life. Do a quick once-around before getting into your car — do any of the tires look low? This is a good way to catch a flat tire before pulling out of your driveway, or, if you have an object in one of your tires, you may notice it being less inflated than the others, giving you a chance to find the object before driving and possibly having a blow-out. Keeping an eye on the tire pressure is important as well. Once or twice a month, check the pressure in each of your tires, inflating as needed. This can help them to wear evenly which can contribute to better gas mileage.
- Air Filter – Your air filter can affect how well your engine runs, which can lead to how well (or not well) your vehicle is on gas mileage. If you notice that your car or truck is difficult to start, or that it is idling rough, this little filter may be the culprit. Changing it about every 10,000 miles or once per year, whichever comes first, is highly recommended.
